Briefly describe the Precipitation distribution of India

Distribution of Precipitation:

Annual rainfall of over 300 cm is received over the western coast and Northeast India. Annual rainfall of less than 50 cm is experienced in western Rajasthan and adjoining parts of Gujarat, Haryana and Punjab. Rainfall is equally low in the interior of Deccan Plateau east of Sahyadris (Western Ghats named in Maharashtra and Goa) due to Orographic process.
A third area of low precipitation is around Leh in Kashmir. While, rest of the country receives moderate rainfall. And, Snowfall is restricted to the Himalayan region.
The monsoons pattern over the India is undistributed and owing to the vagaries of the monsoon, the annual rainfall is highly variable from the year to year. Variability is high in the regions of low rainfall. Areas of high rainfall are liable to be affected by the floods. Whereas, the areas of moderate and low rainfall are prone to drought.
